Miami High School varsity softball player Aizlyn Alsbury understands that success is built on more than individual performance. As a first baseman for the Lady Wardogs, Alsbury brings a team-first approach shaped by her experience in multiple sports and the support of those closest to her.
Alsbury is a three-sport athlete at Miami, also competing as a goalkeeper in soccer and a post player in basketball. That versatility has helped her gain confidence in different competitive settings while learning how every role can affect a team’s outcome.
“I play softball, soccer, and basketball. In softball I play first base, in soccer I am the goalie, and in basketball I am a post,” Alsbury said.
Her athletic career already includes several meaningful achievements. Alsbury was named MVP in soccer during her freshman season. In softball, she played first base as a sophomore while helping Miami qualify for the state tournament. She also earned a leading rebounder award during her junior basketball season, despite it being her first year playing the sport.
Those moments reflect the work ethic Alsbury says she learned from her father.
“I am inspired immensely by my dad, because he has the biggest work ethic out of anyone I know, and has always implemented in me how important that truly is in everything that I do,” Alsbury said.
Softball has reinforced the importance of putting the group ahead of the individual. Whether a player is on the field or supporting from the dugout, Alsbury believes every person has a role in a team’s success.
“My sport has taught me to not be selfish, and that to succeed as a team, it takes everyone, on the field or not,” Alsbury said.
She also credits Rhyan Long with making a lasting impact through their time together in other sports. Alsbury said Long’s encouragement and willingness to help have pushed her to improve both as an athlete and a person. Alsbury carries advice from her mother into every challenge: give full effort, regardless of the result. She is also thankful for the people who continue to encourage her, including friends, family and Coach K.
“I want to say thank you to all of my friends and family, for always showing up for me, and making stressful times a little bit easier. I also want to thank Coach K for always trying her best to make everything enjoyable for us and teaching us valuable lessons that I will carry with me forever,” Alsbury said.
