Kyla Glenn balances academics and athletics with grace as she prepares to graduate as one of Miami High School’s valedictorians in the Class of 2026.
Glenn, a varsity cheerleader for the Wardogs, serves as a flyer on the squad, a position that requires both physical skill and mental toughness. The responsibility comes with unique challenges.
“I think the toughest thing about being a flyer is the pressure of having to stand on the stunt no matter what, because falling to the ground is no fun,” Glenn said.
Her athletic achievements extend beyond the sidelines. Glenn made the All-Region Cheer Team this year and alsocompetes on the varsity tennis team. But cheerleading holds special significance for the senior, who has roots at Miami that run deep.
“Representing Miami is special to me because my mom and dad both graduated from Miami, and it has been fun cheering on the Wardogs since third grade,” Glenn said.
Beyond athletics, Glenn has distinguished herself academically and through service. She belongs to National Honor Society, Student Council and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In September, she was named Rotary Student of the Month.
Science stands out as her favorite subject, and she credits teacher Kenton “Kitten” Adams as the best instructor she has had.
Glenn draws inspiration from her faith and family as she navigates the demands of senior year.
“God and my parents inspire me the most,” Glenn said. “My faith in God has gotten me through some of the toughest things, and He is a huge inspiration in my life.”
Her mother’s selflessness and her father’s vocal support at games have shaped her character, she said.
Cheerleading has taught Glenn valuable life lessons that extend beyond the mat.
“Athletics, specifically cheer, has taught me how to work with a team, and how to trust others, and know that I never have to do anything alone,” Glenn said.
As for her teammates, Glenn does not hesitate to express her appreciation.
“I love my teammates,” Glenn said. “They are my closest friends, and I know that they will always have my back.”
