Miami High School senior Trevor Henry enters his final football season determined to make the most of every opportunity with the Wardogs.
A versatile athlete who will play free safety and wingback, Henry brings quickness, toughness and a competitive edge to both sides of the ball. He believes his ability to avoid defenders — along with a physical style that can surprise opponents — is a major part of his game.
“The strength in my game I would say is my elusiveness, and agility, but also being way stronger and physical then people assume I am,” Henry said.
For Henry, the appeal of Miami football starts with the team’s collective approach. He said the Wardogs have established a standard of effort during the offseason, and that shared work ethic has made an impression as his senior year begins.
“What I love most about my team and teammates at Miami is that everybody shows up every day wanting to get better with no excuses,” Henry said.
He also appreciates the commitment he has seen from the program in recent months.
“I am playing free safety and wing back what I am liking most about the team is how hardworking everyone has been this offseason,” Henry said.
Henry has been shaped by several important people, beginning with his father.
“My dad inspires me, just from being able to see the way he fights through stuff every day and never gives up,” Henry said.
He also credits teammates Dane Jones and Rhett Howe for helping him grow. Henry said he and Jones continually challenge one another, while Howe helped him adjust after he moved to Miami.
“Dane always wants to work, and we push each other to be the best we can be,” Henry said.
“Rhett took me under his wing when I moved here, showed me the ropes and what it took to be a star at Miami. I am forever grateful for him,” Henry said.
Away from football, Henry plays baseball, runs track and powerlifts. He hopes his athletic career continues after graduation, whether that opportunity comes in football or baseball.
“After high school I want to play at the next level in either baseball or football,” Henry said.
As he prepares for his final season, Henry is focused on enjoying the experience while bringing a stronger mindset to every snap.
“I am most excited to just go play the game I love for one last time,” Henry said.
